Acupuncture Edina Treatment for Fibromyalgia Pain

Acupuncture Edina is one of the very important treatments in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) because it has proven for several millennia its usefulness in treating so many kinds of health problems that have benefited countless numbers of people throughout its history.  This ancient medical art has evolved into many variations including electroacupuncture.  If one is suffering from fibromyalgia symptoms, then getting an acupuncture treatment is just what one needs to alleviate the severe pain caused by this disorder.

Fibromyalgia is a disorder that painfully affects different parts of the body particularly the hips, lower back, shoulders, neck and even the hands and feet.  Unfortunately, along with these pains other distressing conditions such as joint stiffness, muscle strain and spasm, gastrointestinal problems, sleeplessness, migraines and nagging headaches may also be experienced by the fibromyalgia patient.

There is no acupuncture treatment that treats fibromyalgia symptoms involving just one session.  The amount of treatments needed to bring substantial and long-lasting pain relief depends on the magnitude of the pain.  Acute fibromyalgia may entail lesser treatment sessions than those suffering from prolonged and chronic fibromyalgia.  Nevertheless, improvement of one’s condition is guaranteed with acupuncture treatment

Acupuncture is about the use of needles inserted into special points in the body to remove energy imbalances in the body and restore health by balancing the body and regulating the body functions.  TCM believes that ailments and diseases exist because the energy, called chi in the body cannot flow freely due to the rise of blockages in the energy channels called meridians.  When chi flow is blocked the organs and body parts deprived of energy begin to dysfunction causing pain and sickness to arise.   The acupuncture needles remove the blockages and allow blood flow to increase in the painful areas effectively removing pain.

Also, acupuncture helps release endorphins which are neurotransmitters that raise the threshold of pain thereby helping relieve fibromyalgia pain. Electroacupuncture is just like acupuncture but with the additional use of mild electrical pulses to quicken the relieving effect.  An electrical generating device sends out mild electrical pulses to wires attached to the acupuncture needles.  The electricity quickly stimulates the release of endorphins and elevates the pain threshold of the patient; the same effects that traditional acupuncture gives albeit in a much faster way.

Traditional acupuncture and electroacupuncture are both painless treatments especially if performed by a licensed and well-trained acupuncturist. During the insertion of the needles many patients either feel a tingling sensation or a feeling of heaviness which is quickly replaced by a calming, tranquil and relaxing sensation as the needles’ therapeutic effect is felt.  This sensation is felt throughout the whole session.  The fibromyalgia symptoms are effectively neutralized when this feeling begins to set in and lasts usually for a day or more.
